Coming Up For Review…

It is almost true that 2011 was one of the best years for film, or fair to say that there were a good few films that had the “Box Office” tills ringing that all so lovely jingle titled “Kerching”. But, 2012 is to go much further than this with a brand new tune that will almost certainly be called “Wonga, and plenty of it.”

The quick introduction of “3D Film” brought a little more cash through the global cinema, while the MPAA lost quite a lot of it to Law Suits and High Profile cases which left the film industry nearly on its arse! (Yes, I said arse). But all that Political hype aside, the Hollywood Hills and, indeed the UK Studios had brought many “Up close and personal” pieces that have had critics – like myself – turning in the air with somersaults and back flips a plenty at the lashings of Sci-Fi, Thriller, Action, Comedy and Horror helpings.

So, what have we got to look forward to seeing in the coming year of 2012?

First up is “7Lives” starring the London Cockney himself, Mr Danny Dyer.

7Lives - 2011

Brief: Tom, a married man with kids, is struggling at work when a client tries to seduce him with promises of a ‘more exciting life’. On his way home one night he gets attacked by a gang of hoodies and falls into a parallel world where he lives 5 other lives including a Rock-Star, a Homeless person and the ‘hoody’ that attacked him. These lives help him to re-evaluate his priorities and values but in order to get home he must face some of his deepest desires and fears. Will he make it home or is the grass greener on the other side?Written by miscellaneous

This is said to be Danny Dyers most serious acting part so far in his career. What will this film rate through The DVD Archive? Well, wait and see.

With a few Horror films released during 2011, it was 11.11.11 which came out on the top list of The DVD Archive, especially as this film was crafted in such a way that the after effects that initiated the Psychological impact left us rather perplexed to say the least.

Safe (2012)

Well, its been quite a good ten year for Jason Statham, the UK born “Two Smokin’ Barrels” actor. Going from strength to strength (and we will be proving it, with a Special Actor’s Profile coming in January), it is “Safe” that will have the critics buzzing in their electronic ink wells and raving about how a man nearing his 40th birthday can still wow the audiences with Martial Arts sequences and adrenaline fuelled action.

Plot: A former elite agent takes on a two-tier mission: rescue a Chinese girl who’s been abducted by the Triads, then use a safe combination to outwit the Russian Mafia, corrupt NYC officials, and the Triads themselves.

Journey 2…

The Mysterious Island, due for release in February 2012, offers much more than its prototype Fantasy Adventures before it. Sporting a very strong cast and thrills and spills to entertain even the thirstiest child and parent, Journey 2 The Mysterious Island will have a Box Office Hit time of year. Coming from the same Director as “Journey To The Center Of The Earth”, we know that this movie will be every bit as successful…Until Captain Nemo (2012) comes out, at least.

The Titans Return

A while ago, we mentioned that quite a few new(ish) films would be returning with their sequels, including Sherlock Holmes, Transformers, Twilight and whole host of others besides. So, when we came across this new comer (which was pretty much kept under wraps), we just had to spread the word and shout from the rooftops.

Wrath of the Titans (March 2012)

Summary: Perseus embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, who has been targeted for capture by his traitorous son, Ares, and his brother, Hades.

Even More: A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus -the demigod son of Zeus – is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10 year old son, Helius. Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans.

Dangerously weakened by humanity’s lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long ruling brothers Zeus, Hades and Poseidon. The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, as dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld. Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus’ godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramirez), switch loyalty and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus.

The Titans’ strength grows stronger as Zeus’ remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on Earth. Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon’s demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Who sing’s that track on “D’ajore Dior” advert? OK, so its not a film or television series, but, it has a lot of people buzzing and sounding off lately. Well, we ARE not the exclusive “Beholders” of this info, but we will put you out of your misery and bring you up to speed on this exceptionally great song.

Who are “The Gossip”?

Gossip (formerly The Gossip) are a three-piece American indie rock band fronted by Beth Ditto, guitarist Brace Paine and drummer Hannah Blilie [1]. The band was relatively unknown until they hit success with their third studio album, Standing in the Way of Control. ossip was formed in 1999 in Olympia, Washington with vocalist Beth Ditto , guitarist Nathan “Brace Paine,” and drummer Kathy Mendonca. In 1999 the Independent record label, K Records, released The Gossip’s first recording, their eponymous debut EP, The Gossip. Their next release was their first album That’s Not What I Heard and was released by the record label Kill Rock Stars on January 23, 2001. In between the release of their second album, they released the EP Arkansas Heat on May 7, 2002. Movement, the group’s second studio album, followed one year later and was released on May 6, 2003. In November 2003, two months after the release of their first live album Undead in NYC on September 9, drummer Kathy Mendonca left the band to pursue a career as a midwife. Established punk drummer Hannah Blilie joined to replace her. In 2005, the band performed at North East Sticks Together. The first release featuring new drummer Hannah Blilie was the band’s next album Standing in the Way of Control. It was released on January 24, 2006 on Kill Rock Stars and later on in 2006 on UK independent label Back Yard Recordings.

Prometheus 2012

Anticipated as being one of the best Sci-Fi Horror’s since Alien, the new production by Ridley Scott has got everyone talking, especially The DVD Archive, who just missed out on getting a limited edition DVD Screener of the new film. Only now do we have the Official Trailer, we will have to wait until this great looking (Scary as hell film) comes out. Enjoy.
